Catherine’s Story

I’m a Colorado native who loves the outdoors, reading, trying new recipes, and spending time with family and friends. I’ve always been curious about people’s stories and how we make meaning out of our experiences.

Growing up, I loved school and sports. I was perfectionistic and high achieving in both arenas which led to the feeling that no matter how hard I tried, it was never good enough. Eventually, I felt like I wasn’t good enough which contributed to my own struggle with an eating disorder, depression, and anxiety for many years. My recovery journey began when I decided I couldn’t live that way anymore and sought help; working hard and discovering an inner strength I didn’t realize I possessed. As a recovered professional, I am passionate about supporting others in finding their own recovery.

I earned my master’s degree in counseling from the University of Colorado Denver and founded Embrace Strength Counseling in 2011. I also volunteer as president of the Denver Metro Chapter of iaedp (the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals) and teach master’s level counseling courses at the University of Colorado Denver. In addition to counseling services, I provide clinical supervision and professional consultation services.

Lisa’s Story

Hello. My name is Lisa Mareb and I’m committed to helping you build a more fulfilling and passionate relationship with your mind, body, food and spirit. I believe that full recovery from an eating disorder is possible and worth it- and I am proof. As a teenager, I suffered from anxiety and bought into the myth that I needed to be thin in order to have value. I developed an eating disorder that, with the help of a therapist, my community and my yoga practice, I was able to overcome and I can proudly declare myself recovered for over 20 years. In my free time, I enjoy cooking for friends and family, yoga, walking my dog Potatoes, and most of all riding my motorcycle on the beautiful roads Colorado has to offer!

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor. I’ve been a psychotherapist since 2004 and specifically working with eating disorders since 2010. I have worked at all levels of eating disorder care and understand the complexity of treating this painful disorder. Using an integrative approach of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, I work with my clients to disengage from the traps of their disorders and build a satisfying life in accordance to their particular values. This work is not just limited to eating disorders- I also specialize in anxiety, depression, personality disorders and life transitions. I also offer clinical, licensure and CEDS supervision to professionals. Being a guide on your path to mind/body wellness is my passion and I would be honored to join you in this process.
