Meet Hennessy
Do you ever want to change the way your story is being written? Does it ever feel like the words that are being used to describe your life don’t align with how you want to tell your story? Do you want to increase your child’s confidence, ability to understand the world, and tolerance for distress through play? You are looking in the right spot! I believe that individuals have a right to tell their own story and change the way they view themselves and their experiences. Clients can expect a compassionate, calming, playful, and non-judgmental space in session with me. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages, however, I love working with children, adolescents, and their parents in order to develop a welcoming, encouraging, and fun environment for expression and processing through play. Children deserve a space where they can process their emotions, struggles, and strengths through something that comes naturally to them, play. I incorporate a range of play formats, including sand tray, therapeutic art, and dolls, to help children develop emotional regulation skills and explore emotional processing.
I earned my master’s degree from the University of Colorado Denver Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. At Embrace Strength, I am supervised by Catherine S. Tilford, MA, NCC, LPC, CEDS. A large portion of my coursework has specialized in play therapy, how to work in diverse populations, and how to incorporate family into the therapy process. I work from a narrative perspective of therapy which means that I believe that everyone has their own story and has the right to change and re-author their story to increase self-confidence, resilience, and empowerment. I have completed all of my coursework and am now working on accruing my clinical hours in order to graduate. I hope to receive my Registered Play Therapist certificate.
Prior to coming to Embrace Strength, I worked at Children’s Hospital of Colorado as an Administrative Service Coordinator for the therapies department. This taught me a range of things about myself and my desire to work with children. My experiences as a second-generation Mexican-American has made me passionate bout working with diverse populations and giving back to my community. I am still very close with my three sisters and believe that families are an important part of every child’s development and long-term success. I love to spend time reading a book with my dog and cat (Bella and Oliver) or playing board games with my partner.
